Giuliano Giannichedda: Random facts

Giannichedda joined Lazio in 2001 from Udinese, brought to the capital by then-manager Alberto Zaccheroni, who had previously worked with the midfielder at Udinese.

Giuliano Giannichedda grew up south of Rome, in Pontecorvo, Lazio. Consequently he and his family (mother, father, one brother: a lawyer) are, according to the Lazio publicity, all fans of the club. (Other reports suggest the young Giuliano may have been an AC Milan fan). He started his career with local side Pontecorvo, before spending three seasons in C2 and C1 with Sora. In 1995 he moved to Udinese and made his Serie A debut in August 1995, against Cagliari.

He enjoyed success with the national Under-23 team, and played his first game in the senior national side on 30.3.99, against Bielorussia, but although he has earned three caps, he has never earned a regular place in the Azzurri.

The Lazio website informs us that Giannichedda is a big fan of basketball and Formula 1 (supporting Ferrari although he drives a Porsche). He likes listening to 'good music' and watching action films. He enjoys surfing the net, which he uses to follow the movements of the stock market.

He is unlikely to choose a move to the Premiership, as he doesn't like training sessions in the rain ('you could catch the'flu'). His favourite colour is apparently blue.

Giannichedda has earned a lot of respect for the hard work and determination he has shown at Lazio. During the 2001-2002 season when times were hard, he was one of the few players the fans still cheered. 'He puts his heart in everything he does', commented then teammate Diego Simeone. 'And he's a great lad'.
