Travel to Rome
Airlines
Most major airlines fly to Fiumicino, Rome's principal airport.
For cheap flights to Rome from the UK, both Easyjet and Ryanair fly to Ciampino, Rome's
second airport, from a variety of UK airports. This airport is actually nearer the centre
of town, and it's possible to save more money by usin public transport from the Ciampino to the centre of Rome.
Getting into Rome
- From Fiumicino:
- The Fiumicino Express train service goes straight from the airport to Stazione Termini, Rome's main station.
From here you can take the Metro, bus services or a taxi to your hotel. If you're travelling straight to the stadium,
take Metro Linea A: Direzione Battistini. Alight at Flaminio station, (4 stops) and follow the instructions given in See a Match.
Tip: When you get off the Fiumicino Express, ignore the taxi touts trying to direct you out of the station. You have a long way to go to the main station concourse.
Head straight up the platform, heading down a ramp to a moving walkway. This takes you right to the shopping mall and Metro platforms below the station. Buy your Metro ticket from a news-stand.
- By taxi: a taxi from Fiumicino should cost about €35-40 . There have been problems with taxi drivers overcharging, and giving forged notes in change. Check your taxi is an official one, and if in
doubt write down (very conspicuously) the taxi number. Don't be afraid to argue.
- From Ciampino:
Private coach: a company called Terravision run a swift coach service direct to Stazione Termini. Tickets can be bought at a kiosk in the airport or online in advance.
This is easy and convenient compared to the public transport, although it is more expensive. The journey takes between 40 minutes and an hour, depending on traffic. The Terravision coaches arrive
in (and depart from) via Marsala, next to Termini.
- Bus: Local buses run from Ciampino Airport to the local railway station and onwards to Anagnina, which is the final stop on Metro Linea A.
You can buy a €1 bus ticket from the driver, and pick up a Metro ticket (also €1) from a news-stand or machine at Anagnina. Remember to validate your Metro ticket as you pass through the entrance gates.
Buses depart from the forecourt outside the airport, and their final destination is right next to the stairways down to Anagnina
Metro station, from which you can take a Metro straight to Stazione Termini (or beyond).
- There's a taxi rank outside the terminal building, and fares should be around €35-40 to the centre of Rome.
